The Bond Boys are back at it again! This week, Ziggy & Eric tackle the short works of Ian Fleming, in the collections of short stories; “For Your Eyes Only”, and “Octopussy and The Living Daylights”.

octopussy_and_the_living_daylights.largeWe go in-depth to talk about all 8 stories in the two collections; “From a View To A Kill”, “For Your Eyes Only”, “Quantum of Solace”, “Risico”, and “The Hildebrand Rarity” from the first. As well as; “Octopussy”, “The Living Daylights”, and “Property Of A Lady” from the second. For those of you who are true Bond fans, you’ll notice that we left out “007 in New York”, this was due to the rarity of actually finding a print of this book in which it is included.

After discussing the stories in order, we then rank them from 8 to 1 as our favorites/least favorites and discuss our placements. You may be surprised and how different (or not) the hosts lists end up being!

007 in New York is really more of a story about the things Fleming likes and dislikes about New York. Bond really doesn’t do anything except passing the time before an appointment he has at the central park zoo. There is no tension, no plot and no action, just Bond reminiscing like he does in the first part of For Your Eyes Only. For the Bond completest it is obligatory reading but only if you want a new least favourite short story.

That’s pretty much the take I got from comments when looking for it and not finding it in time.

Did you have a favorite of the stories we did discuss?

    Thanks for listening!

I have a few favourites that are close together. The Living Daylights in probably my favourite. To me it reads like a mission in between the missions involving megalomaniac bad guys. Just Bond doing his job. I really like For Your Eyes Only. It really is a mini adventure and I also like the interaction between M and Bond in the beginning. However, to my defence for liking it, I have never been to a Cosy Motel. I also like Risico and From A View To A Kill.

Also, show 30 was really cool! I remember watching James Bond Jr. in the 90s. It was a terrible cartoon, but hey, it WAS James Bond so we had to watch it. 🙂
